Melvindale, Michigan – A 19-year-old former National Guard member from Melvindale has been arrested and charged in connection with an ISIS-inspired terror plot targeting a U.S. Army facility in Warren, just north of Detroit.
Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said was apprehended by federal authorities after allegedly planning a mass shooting at the Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility. While not a traditional military base, TACOM plays a vital role in supplying and maintaining ground equipment for the U.S. Army.
Foiled Before Execution
According to federal investigators, Said provided weapons, ammunition, and firebomb materials to undercover agents whom he believed to be fellow ISIS operatives. He also offered tactical training and flew a drone over the TACOM site to gather intelligence for the attack.
In a video shared with the agents, Said allegedly stated:
“For us, whether they’re armed or not, it’s shoot-to-kill.”
Said even visited the facility in uniform and consented to a voluntary phone search, which revealed communications expressing support for ISIS and intentions to carry out violence against Americans.

Statement from Authorities
U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon commented:
“ISIS is a ruthless terrorist organization determined to harm Americans. Anyone who supports or enables such violence will face the full force of the law.”
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who oversees the Michigan National Guard, praised the swift response:
“I’m grateful to our law enforcement partners for preventing this attack. We will not tolerate any threats to our service members or civilians.”
Potential Sentencing
Said faces up to 20 years in federal prison per charge. The charges include providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and planning a violent attack on a federal facility.
Political Context
Said is a resident of Melvindale, represented by Democrat Shri Thanedar, who recently filed articles of impeachment against former President Donald Trump. It remains unclear if Representative Thanedar or Rep. Rashida Tlaib have issued statements regarding the incident.
Community Concerns
Dearborn and surrounding areas, including Melvindale, have significant Arab-American populations. However, law enforcement emphasizes that this was an isolated incident and that the community’s cooperation remains vital in preventing extremism.
